Solar & Net Metering
What your net meter tells you, and what it doesn't
Your net meter reports one net figure per billing cycle. It cannot tell you how much you generated, how much you used directly, or when you exported. The Vue measures all three, continuously.
Where the sensors go
| Main CTs (200 A × 3) | On the incoming phase conductors, between the utility supply and the point where the inverter's output joins the board. Placed here they read true grid import and export. |
| Branch CTs (50 A) | On the inverter's AC output conductors — one per phase for a three-phase inverter, one for a single-phase inverter. These read generation. |
Never reverse a clamp to fix a sign. Gen3 handles direction in software. Fit every sensor with the arrow pointing toward the breaker as normal, then enable Bi-Directional mode in the app. Physically reversing a sensor is not the supported method and will confuse whoever services the installation later.
Two conditions during configuration
- Run solar setup when the array is producing nothing — after sunset, or with the solar isolator off.
- Have a discernible load running — at least about 1 kW per phase. A geyser, air conditioner or oven will do.
Then in the app: Menu → Manage Devices → Reset Wi-Fi / Solar Setup → “I have Solar/Generation”. Re-check the next day in daylight: generation should read positive, and export should appear when generation exceeds consumption.
What you can then see
- Generation, measured at the inverter output — independent of what the inverter's own app claims.
- Self-consumption — the units you never buy, which are worth more than the units you export. You cannot shift loads into daylight hours without seeing this.
- Import and export, separately and in real time — to compare against your net meter's one number a month.
The honest limit
The Vue is a monitoring instrument, not an approved billing instrument. It holds no BIS certification, and its readings have no standing with your DISCOM. Expect a difference from the utility meter of a couple of percent from the ±2% tolerance alone, plus more from billing-cycle alignment. Use it to know when something needs investigating — not as evidence in itself.
Solar that connects on the supply side of your board, or through an enclosure the Vue cannot reach, cannot be measured. Establish the inverter's connection point before ordering.
Before you order
Send us three things on WhatsApp +91 98310 37220: a photo of your distribution board, your inverter make and rating, and whether the inverter feeds into this board or elsewhere. We will confirm the right configuration — typically the 8-sensor model.
